Located in the former Bow Truss Coffee Roasters space, Passion House has a minimal aesthetic with hip and trendy plant decor. They have a small counter area to sit at along with a medium-sized backroom and a small outdoor patio area. Our goal is to produce nuanced, complex, and clean coffee while cultivating relationships with the farms. After working as a barista in Chicago, I ventured west to San Diego where I helped open and manage a café in downtown, and though the west coast was truly one of the most amazing places I had ever been, the heartbeat of the Midwest (and in particular Chicago) beckoned me back. Ten years later, I can proudly say what we have built as a team is something that I cherish at my core, and I truly can’t wait to see what the next ten years and beyond have in store. The location is closing so Millman and his team can focus on the Goose Island cafe and open a second one in the same building as the roastery at 328 N. The barista provided wonderful descriptions of the tea flavors and was very enthusiastic about their products. They have authentic, loose-leaf black tea, green tea, herbal tea, and white tea with incredibly complex flavors. We also find ways to continually connect with our community, and our coffee collaborations with various partners and non-profits is a key component of who we are and what we value most. Being tea lovers, we decided to order their sparkling white tea and their hot black tea. The white tea tasted as clear as it looked and was extremely refreshing while basking in the sunlight. Their black tea had a slight smoky flavor to it that added to its intensity and reminded me of a smoky Russian tea.
